A BuzzFeed News journalist suggested on Twitter there would be more outrage from President Trump's administration over the deadly Sri Lanka bombings if the victims were white.
BuzzFeed News world editor Miriam Elder tweeted hours after explosions on Easter Sunday killed hundreds of people at churches and hotels in the South Asia country.
"Suspect we’d be hearing a lot more outrage from Trump and co. if the Christians killed in Sri Lanka were white," Elder tweeted with a link to BuzzFeed News' article on the attacks.
Elder's tweet was "ratioed," meaning the number of comments vastly outnumbered retweets and likes — a sign of widespread negative reaction. Multiple users criticized Elder for her near-instant politicization of the attacks that has killed more than 200 people, including some American citizens.
Trump tweeted his condolences to the victims and families in Sri Lanka, proclaiming that the United States was prepared to provide assistance.
"138 people have been killed in Sri Lanka, with more that 600 badly injured, in a terrorist attack on churches and hotels," Trump tweeted. "The United States offers heartfelt condolences to the great people of Sri Lanka. We stand ready to help!"

Trump's tweet was his second attempt at tweeting about the attacks, having to delete his first tweet for erroneously identifying that 138 "million" people had been killed.
Sri Lankan officials have put the death toll at more than 200 and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced "several" U.S. citizens were killed in the attacks. Pompeo condemned the "vile attacks" in a tweet.
"The U.S. condemns in the strongest terms the Easter morning terror attacks in Sri Lanka," Pompeo tweeted. "These attacks demonstrate the brutal nature of terrorists whose sole aim is to threaten peace & security. We offer our deepest condolences and stand with the government & people of #SriLanka."
